The United States joined WWI in 1917 |
World War One officially started in Europe in 1914. For the first time ever the world was a war. Before 1914 most wars were between countries sharing borders. No longer was that to be true. Then. Now. Future.
Because of the outcome of WWI, the United States became the most powerful military the world has ever known.
The United States came into the war three years after it had started in 1917.
After the world war one, Americans were very afraid. They believed that the war was a terrible thing, and everyone besides Americans were terrible. They were scared of outsiders. They were also scared of becoming a communism country. This would make rich people very upset because they had to share their money with everyone.
To relieve some of these fears, they became nativist. They only wanted to be around people who were classified "American." They also isolated themselves from other countries. This caused them to be racist. Since they were scared of becoming communist, they hunted people that they believed were apart of the communism party.
Americans had fears that related to the League of Nations. They had collective security vs. national soreignty. They did not want to deal with other countries. They had idealism vs. pragmatism. They wanted to force idealistic goals.
The goals of the communist were to create a economic and political system. They wanted create a single-party government ruled by the working class. They wanted to disribute wealth and party equally.
